Distilling the South Book Launch and Fish Fry

Coleen Speaks is pleased to welcome award-winning food writer for the Charlotte Observer, Kathleen Purvis, and author of two cookbooks, Bourbon and Pecans, for a celebration of her newest book – Distilling the South, Friday July 27th at 5:30pm in Whitaker & Atlantic.
“This is an incredibly exciting time for spirit production in the South, and how special that we have one of the foremost authorities on Southern spirits right here in North Carolina, with Kathleen Purvis,” explained Speaks, who has invited North Carolina’s most prominent distillers to join the party.
In addition to live music, guests will enjoy an hour-long panel discussion and tasting, moderated by Purvis, with Durham Distillery, Broadslab Distillery, TOPO Organic Spirits, Copper Barrel Distillery and The Brothers Vilgalys Spirits Company.
Speaks’ craft cocktail bar, Hummingbird, will offer the opening cocktail and a Friday Fish Fry with Locals Seafood on the patio, as well as seasonal sides and dessert. Hummingbird will also serve additional cocktails for purchase featuring each of these North Carolina distilleries, and signed books will be available for purchase, courtesy of Quail Ridge Books.
